I had a lunch experience that was both delicious and heart-warming. It went like this:

I’m surrounded by an array of yummy options. What to have for lunch?
Mmm, that one looks good… I’ll have it!
I make my way through the line, placing my order as I go.
I reach the cash register at the end of the line.
A friendly man hands me my soda and tells me my total.
I reach to give him my debit card.
He smiles and shakes his head. “I’m sorry, we don’t take cards.”
Mortification sets in. “Really, you don’t take cards?”
I quickly look in my wallet and confirm what I know is true.
I don’t have cash. I rarely have cash. I hardly ever need cash.
Seriously, a $20 bill will last me 2-3 weeks.
He smiles, hands me a receipt and says “It’s okay, you can pay me tomorrow.”
And I will. You better believe it.
There isn’t enough trust and honesty in this world. And you can’t have one without the other.
